History, Harmony & Daniel
Published in Paperback by Chronology Books (December, 1988)
Author: Eugene W. Faulstich
Average review score:

Daniel unsealed
This book squashes the popular theories that the ten horns of daniel are ten nations, that the messiah reference in the 70 weeks of daniel refer to Jesus, and also shows in complete detail the meanings of all the books of Daniel. A much more exciting examination than the books of other authors, fiction and non-fiction alike.

Hollow Bodies and Other Stories
Published in Paperback by Court Street Press (July, 2002)
Authors: Eugene C. Johnson, Foster J. Dickson, and Ben Beard
Average review score:

Subtle and genuine
Seldom do you find a short story writer who puts together such subtle and genuine vignettes about life and the little nuances that make it terrific and difficult at the same time. Johnson's book of stories is just like that.

Hollywoodspeak: What They Say and What They Really Mean!: The Official Hollywood Dictionary
Published in Paperback by General Pub Group (December, 1996)
Author: Eugene B. Lebowitz
Average review score:

If you love showbiz you've got to get this book!
Having lived and worked in L.A. for many years I found this book hysterical and right on the money! I hope Mr. Lebowitz brings out Hollywoodspeak II so I can submit some of my own lines! For instance I once had a casting agent say to me: You're going to start the job February 1st. Since it never happened, I assume what he really meant was: You pick the date, I'll pick the year

The Holy See and the international order
Published in Unknown Binding by Smythe ()
Author: Hyginus Eugene Cardinale
Average review score:

Excellent scholarly resource
An excellent scholarly examination of the Holy See's place in the international order with emphasis on the history and practice of Vatican diplomacy and thorough examination of canon law and international law. Many appendices containing, inter alia, organic statutes for Vatican City, the Lateran Treaties, and numerous international treaties and conventions. A must-read for anyone--especially journalists--who want to understand the unique position the Holy See holds on the international stage as the oldest continuously functioning institution in the world. Some legal background would help, but is not necessary to fully appreciate the concepts set forth. Its publication date of 1976 makes it a bit dated but does not impair its overall value. As a companion volume, I strongly recommend James-Charles Noonan, Jr.'s "The Church Visible: The Ceremonial Life and Protocol of the Roman Catholic Church".

How to Preach a Parable: Designs for Narrative Sermons
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (October, 1989)
Author: Eugene L. Lowry
Average review score:

More Than The Usual -- "How-To!"
Eugene Lowry writes a most provocative teaching guide from his own experience. He uses as bonus the four sample sermons from Dennis Willis, Leander Keck, Academic Dean at Yale Divinity School, Fred Craddock, Retired Bandy Professor of Candler School of Theology at Emory and one of his own sermons.

Dennis Willis preached the only Old Testament Story - "Noah was A Good Man." This was the first example of Lowry's design option of "running the story." Here we have the result of Biblical scholarship which marks-up the quality each sermon. He clearly illustrates Lowry's past emphasis of "every parable has to have a point." Yet recent Biblical studies suggest, "that a parable doesn't have a point..." It is a point!"

Lowry's sermon, "Who Could Ask for Anything More" was an example of the design of "suspending the story." Leander Keck had once preached "Limited Resources - Unlimited Possibilities" at Chapel of the Emory - Candler School of Theology. This followed Lowry's design of "delaying the story."

My favorite sermon is the last one by Fred Craddock, "Praying Through Clenched Teeth." He shows his typical gift of creatively "alternating the story." Sometimes he refers to that as "layered stories" - other times as "stories within a story." Which ever you choose, he expects the listener to interpret the stories for himself or herself. Lowry picks-up on this as "his listeners have come to experience his back!"

All four men have moved up in this world or as Dennis Willis at forty years of age - into the next higher World!" One more real example of what it takes to re-create a Super How-To Book.

An essential text
Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela's encounter with Eugene De Kock, known as South Africa's "Prime Evil" of the apartheid system-- tested her boundaries for forgiveness and compassion. It is an essential text for anyone interested in learning how--after traumatic events--it is possible to transcend feelings of revenge and move on.

The Illusion of Excellence, and Other Seasonal Sermons
Published in Paperback by Chalice Press (September, 1990)
Author: Eugene W. Brice
Average review score:

Great book-- I heartly recommend it!!
I loved this book! It's a work of rare insight and sparkling wit. The writing was lovely with pared down, simple prose evocative of the vast biblical landscapes traveled, and of this landscape's intersection with our own emotional and spiritual lives.

I could not recommend it more highly.
